Cassandra is a native of Tuscumbia, AL, and has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare field. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1990 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and immediately went to work in the UAB Surgical Intensive Care/Burn/Trauma Unit. She completed her UAB Master’s of Science in Nursing degree in 1995 and worked as a provider with the Orthopedic Spine Surgery team for 18 ½ years. After working 3 years as a provider in the UAB Preoperative Assessment Clinic, she retired to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from UAB in 2019. After completing her doctorate, she worked as a contract provider in the Cooper Green Urgent Care Clinic, worked as an Independent Legal Nurse Consultant, and became a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Certified Medical Examiner. As a member of the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church and the Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, she participates in numerous community service projects. Cassandra has a daughter who is a December 2020 graduate of UAB. Cassandra has always strived to live by the words her wise mother taught her and her brother growing up. One pearl of wisdom was that “God gave you two hands. One to help yourself, and one to help someone else.”
